How to participate?

TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TRANSFORMERS! PROJECT YOU HAVE TO: BE MOTIVATED, BE BETWEEN 18 AND 23 YEARS OLD, COME FROM AMSTERDAM, PARIS, RABAT, ISTANBUL, CAIRO OR BERLIN AND HAVE AN ATTAINABLE PROJECT IN MIND TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY BACK HOME.

TRANSFORMERS TARGET GROUP
The target group of the ‘Transformers!’ program consists of a mix of 24 ambitious youngsters (between 18 to 23 years old) from six different cities: Amsterdam, Paris, Rabat, Istanbul, Cairo and Berlin. Those who come from the Western European cities (Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin) have an immigrant background rooted in an Islamic, or predominantly Islamic, country.

All participants are aged between 18 and 23 years old and live in urban neighborhoods, which have a bad reputation. Participants know what it feels like to be confronted with obstacles in their personal development. All participants are already active in their neighborhood and have the wish to expand their activities up to becoming a local community leader. They are aware of the problems their peers are facing and wish to help them raise awareness for those problems and look for fitting solutions. Participants have particular talents and interests which they would like to further develop and apply in their role as a community leader.

We strive to bring together a group with mixed interests and specialties in the area of artistic and sportive expressions, communication skills and organizational experience. Participants are required to master a basic level of spoken English.

NB: we strive to include an equal number of male and female participants.

IN SHORT: participants have the ambitions and potential to become local heroes of transformation, but lack the skills, means and opportunities to make it just yet on their own. The ‘Transformers!’ program provides them with an experience that can help them realize their own potential.

SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS

Candidate participants are asked to fill in the application form,in which they explain why they think they are fit to become a community leader, and what struggles their peers are facing in their neighborhood. In addition they are asked to present a project proposal they would like to implement in their own neighborhood after the exchange project. The proposal should target a clear and attainable issue but does not need to be developed in full detail. The proposal will be further developed during the exchange, but should beforehand already show enough insight, willingness and capacity of the participant to further develop his/her organizing skills.
